Advantages and disadvantages of wire cutting
Advantages of using wire cutting:
- Ease and precision in cutting small parts that are costly with other methods.
- High precision in cutting, up to micron level.
- Creation of minimal residual force and stress on the part.
- Suitable quality of the cut surface with wirecutting.
- Capability to cut up to 150 mm thickness in standard machines.
- Ability to cut metals with high hardness and strength.
- Possibility of automatic cutting without the presence of an operator.
- Creation of conical and complex holes.
Disadvantages of using wire cutting:
- High electricity consumption.
- Limitation in cutting non-conductive parts.
- High cost of wirecutting equipment.
- Low speed of operation execution.
- Due to the need to create a hole in the part for the wire to pass through, another machine called Super Drill is required.
- High sensitivity in maintenance and use of the wirecut machine.
- Wear of machine components during machining.
- Accumulation of particles from cutting and sediment formation in tanks.
- Corrosion of the machine’s motion axes.
