Advantages and disadvantages of wire cutting

Advantages of using wire cutting:

  1. Ease and precision in cutting small parts that are costly with other methods.
  2. High precision in cutting, up to micron level.
  3. Creation of minimal residual force and stress on the part.
  4. Suitable quality of the cut surface with wirecutting.
  5. Capability to cut up to 150 mm thickness in standard machines.
  6. Ability to cut metals with high hardness and strength.
  7. Possibility of automatic cutting without the presence of an operator.
  8. Creation of conical and complex holes.

Disadvantages of using wire cutting:

  1. High electricity consumption.
  2. Limitation in cutting non-conductive parts.
  3. High cost of wirecutting equipment.
  4. Low speed of operation execution.
  5. Due to the need to create a hole in the part for the wire to pass through, another machine called Super Drill is required.
  6. High sensitivity in maintenance and use of the wirecut machine.
  7. Wear of machine components during machining.
  8. Accumulation of particles from cutting and sediment formation in tanks.
  9. Corrosion of the machine’s motion axes.
